Time for Teens is a not for profit organization that addresses the mental, emotional and developmental needs of teenagers who have experienced the death of a loved one. The program model reflects the vision of the Founder Laraine Gordon, and draws from her twenty years of experience in her private psychotherapy practice and numerous years of professional hospice work.
The program also reflects her personal experience, as she suffered the devastating loss of her sister when she was a teenager herself. TFT received our 501(c)(3) designations in 2007 and offered our first bereavement retreat later the same year. We hold an annual summer bereavement retreat program to serve these teens. The retreat is for teens between the ages of 12 to 19 that have experienced the loss of a loved one.
TFT offers a safe and nurturing environment where healing services, peer support, and creative expression help teens to work through the grieving process in a healthy manner. This is a prevention oriented program that seeks to reduce the incidence of self-destructive behaviors within this vulnerable population. A huge gap is apparent with services specifically targeted to teens who have suffered a loss. Time for Teens blends group psychotherapy, creative and educational workshops, individual counseling and other therapeutic methods to help teens learn how to grieve effectively and understand that they are not alone in their grieving process.
